Jul 27th, 2009 by arthritisradio
Our first guest, Melinda Winner, is a woman on a mission – which is - to make the world aware of a debilitating disease that steals the lives of men, women and children every day in this country. She will soon be setting off on a life changing adventure across the United States. Melinda will start here in Pittsburgh, PA and head north, then south, east and west, visiting every state in the union. She has vowed not to stop until America becomes aware of the severity of auto immune system diseases such as Rheumatoid Arthritis. Melinda wants to help all 46 million+ sufferers of these diseases.
Melinda is also a noted cook. Her talents have taken her all the way to the Food network. She competed on the Ultimate Recipe Showdown in 2008. She has also authored two books: The first, Yankee Cooking with Southern Charm was released in 2008. The Second: A Complete Illustrated Guide to Cooking with Arthritis has just been released. This book is the first of its kind. This book was designed to help the physically challenged regain their independence in the kitchen.
*Note: Bret Michaels suffered from Juvenile Diabetes as child, not Juvenile Arthritis as cited in this interview.*

I really enjoyed it ! Congrats arthritis foundation for arthritis radio ! Congrats Melinda on your book! and for your work for arthritis thank you !
Congratulations David and the whole staff of the AFWPA ! What a wonderful idea , arthritis radio ! There are literality millions who can benefit from the many topics to come ! Thank you for having me as the inaugural guest . I look forward to all the projects you have in the works for the future.
I really enjoyed your first radio / pod cast ! I found it not only intersting but helpful. My wife and I both suffer from arthritis and we both enjoy cooking. Melinda had many helful tips I really like the term she used that we are arthritis survivors ! That is so correct on so many levels! Sometimes it is a challenge to get out of bed, but we do it. Other days it is even harder to prepare our meals but we have to do it. We do not have children nor any help. I can relate to finding tips to buy premade food products. A person can only eat so many. I have tried to find ways to do this on my own , it was not easy. I have just ordered Melinda’s book and I can not wait to try it out. My wife loves to bake bread and she can no longer do it due to this disease. My wife is so excited to find not only recipes but a method to go back to her love of making bread. I also went to her web site and found it to be refreshing! She has taken a horrbile disease and found a way to offer hope , thank you Melinda Winner ! I will be watching for more to come form you !
Absolutely fabulous segment. There was a fluid and natural interaction between David and Melinda. This did not sound like an interview, rather - a professional discussion aimed at the AUDIENCE. Very informative. Very moving on a human level. Melinda Winner has this way of speaking which is very engaging. I look forward to listening to the next interview! Can’t wait.
Very good job, David. Impressive.
Thanks to both of you.
Thanks for such motivating comments! This project has been a labor of love for us and I hope it continues to be helpful and inspiring to those with arthritis. And to grow! A new episode is posting shortly and I hope each show provides someone with an idea, a new direction or a sense of hope. Thanks again and keep listening.
Stay well, David
